Has It Really Been So Long? [4:12pm]
Current Mood: crazy
Oh man, I suck.  I can't believe (okay, maybe I can) that I haven't posted here in well over a year... going on two!  I suck, and I'm so, so, so sorry!  I intend to change that very, very soon.  First and foremost, I will change that, by letting you all know my super secret cosplay plan!  Why is it super secret?  Well, it isn't... and it may not even happen in all honesty, but we'll see.

A friend wanted to do a group for AWA of something not too terribly complicated that happened to have catgirls, as she wanted to be a catgirl.  After much persuasion and convincing, we will be cosplaying from Mahou Nyan Nyan Taruto, aka Magical Meow Meow Taruto.

And now the groans are heard across my friends list.  ::laughs::

Yes, it's an uber cute show, largely made for a younger audience, although still enjoyable to those of us who greatly enjoy ... that kind of anime.  The sugary, sweet, insanely saccrine shoujo types.

I will be making all costumes, for myself, my friend, and her boyfriend (who's just BARELY dressing up).  Fortunately, part of what helped me win them over was the fact that the costume for him is rather a closet cosplay with a few accents and maybe a wig.

Image )

Her costume should be relatively simple overall, as I watched and helped Kimberly make so many of them way back when.  It's simple kimono, which I may just make as a yukata for simplicity, cost, and comfort's sake.  I'll have to make it long enough to fold over, as kimono are meant to be made.  I'll have to make an obi, and put together an obi tie, and all the other important pieces (some of which are visible) to make it all work out.  And, of course, there will be the tail and ears and wig, which shoudn't be difficult at all.

And my costume will be the hardest.  Since I wanted to be her anyway, and my friend wanted the group to have the main character since we don't have all three of the group, I'll be the main character.  So, basically, I need a short wig with a braided extension, ears, tail, and a purple maid costume.  Nothing too complex, but not exactly simple either.

Image )

This, of course, is only if my friend and her boyfriend can make it to AWA.  Otherwise, I probably won't be making anything.  I may scrape something together, though.  I'm not sure.

Part of me says I want to make something for D*Con again, but we all know how crappy my mermaid costume came out last year, and I don't want a repeat of that.  I want something that I'll feel comfortable with, and since it has become tradition for my coworkers to want to see what I'm wearing after work on Friday, it'd really be nice if it was something impressive, too.

And then, of course, I am going to basically be an unofficial bridesmaid for a friend's handfasting that happens to be scheduled right smack dab between D*Con and AWA... and I asked if I could make my dress, and design it myself.  Good idea, self!  Well, actually, it is, as I'd love to be able to design my dress for this, as it's really important to her, and so I want to look perfect... but wow, am I setting myself up for a lot of work in the next couple of months.  ::flails::

I'm probably not doing nearly as much as most of the people who still have this journal friended, honestly, so I'm not crazy for wanting to crank all this out, am I?  XD

Edit for PS:  Anyone going to AWA that wants to be the blond if we end up doing this?  XD

So, I need to actually get a hold of someone to commission the jewelry. I went surfing for images of the jewelry, and am cursing Haru and loving him at the same time. His jewelry changes SO MUCH. But thankfully not in the outfit I want to do. Most of this post is about accessories, but it is also partially about his pants/chaps and turtleneck.

Sewing Parties and Cosplay Plans [9:48am]
Okay, people. We need to get this stuff together. There are at LEAST three of you in the Atlanta area that I need to teach how to sew. Some of you know one another, and some don't. I'll start off by making plans for the Lemming Crew.

On to cosplay matters. I have the following plans for the following conventions/events, and am going to give a list of how they are being made/how far along/whatever.

Current costume schedule for the year of 2005

DragonCon 2005

EGL (Elegant Gothic Lolita) costume originally scheduled for Atlanta EGL picnic (both mine and Joel’s)
Stair-building Lemming! (Lemmings)
Lemming (whichever one Joel wants, for Joel) (Lemmings)
StarFire (Teen Titans!)

Anime Weekend Atlanta 2005
Sohma Hatsuharu “biker” outfit (Fruits Basket) – Note: commissioning wig from friend
Sohma Ayame (for Joel, not sure which outfit yet) (Fruits Basket)
Emperor Hotohori (Fushigi Yuugi) – Note: commissioning from friend
Courtesan Nuriko (for Joel) (Fushigi Yuugi) – Note: commissioning from friend
Sera Myu Taiki performance suit - it has already been paid for and a friend is making the jacket for me, so I would only have to sew my own pants.

re-wear is in… anything else will either be re-wear, or, if I have time, something that can be made for free with the many bins of fabric we already have…

Unless you plan to make it for me or buy the materials for me, I am not doing anything else this year (again, unless I make it from those bins we already have).

If there was ever a character that you wanted me to cosplay or thought I would be great at cosplaying, who would it be and why?

Elegant Gothic Lolita [11:05am]
Current Mood: thoughtful
Current Music: Jem and the Holograms - Friend Or Stranger
Yes, that’s right… I’m considering an EGL costume. Yesterday my friend Ryan invited me to the Atlanta Gothic Lolita picnic held the 30th of this month. I would LOVE to go, but I don’t have a Gothic Lolita costume. I have a “goth” costume, don’t get me wrong… but those of you who saw that… and those of you who know what EGL entails… know that my “costume” was decidedly NOT EGL.

So I’m in a pinch. Is there a way to put together a quick EGL costume without buying new pieces or sewing? If not, is there a way to make an EGL costume for myself with fabric I already have? Dollar a yard is the MOST I’m going to spend on this thing, and this weekend there are patterns for sale at JoAnn’s for $1.99. I don’t want to spend that much if I don’t have to (ie, I don’t want to spend anything, as cons are priority to this). I have time to sew this simply because, well, I haven’t lost enough WEIGHT to get measurements for my other costumes, so I can’t start on them.

So… any ideas on what I should/could do? I have a corset, but I’m fairly certain it isn’t Victorian. It is red with a rose brocade pattern. It is the style (I forget which era, I think Elizabethen(sp)) that ends at my hips and begins just below my bust line. I doubt I can wear it with this. One, it’s red. Not much of an EGL color (if I recall, black, white, pale blue and pale pink are the main EGL colors). Two, it isn’t Victorian. But anyway, I digress. I have a black crenoline skirt. Erm, reaches about my knees. It’s a bit big, so I would have to pin it, but it wouldn’t look too big when I’m wearing it. I have a simple black circle skirt that goes over it (both are courtesy of Patti). For my “goth” costume, I borrowed Joel’s black poet’s shirt (bought at ren fest). Those are the only articles of clothing I can think of that MIGHT work for this (gasp, that was almost the entirety of my “goth” costume). I have enough black shoes that I’m fairly certain I can pull off the chunky doll shoe look… it’s my favorite shoe style, after all.

Suggestions? Ideas? Questions? Any feedback what-so-ever is more than welcome.

Not much to say... [11:45pm]
Current Mood: indifferent
Sadly, I don't really have that much to say. I don't have much done on my upcoming costumes, but I'm going to be working on this soon. A lot of my costumes, actually, are going to be commissioned/done by others. [info]ssfseiyakou was kind enough to offer to make my Myu concert suit jacket, and I will be making my own pants. I am commissioning a friend to make my Hotohori court robes and my fiancee's Nuriko court robes. I will probably be making both of our wigs. I will be commissioning the same friend to make my Hatsuharu wig, as I just don't trust myself to sew together two wigs well. I purchased my Haru shoes, but sadly, after all that expense, they are very wrong... so I'm not sure if I'm going to wear them or not. ;-; I'm going to be commissioning a jewelry shop to custom make my Hatsuha jewelry, because I'm just special like that. XD I know that the group I am in for AWA Masq is basically requiring that I commission my wig from the same person that their wigs are being commissioned from... so I'm out of luck, there. Which is sad, because THAT wig I could probably make, and am now forced to spend WAY too much on it. *shrugs* Oh well!

Hmm... I need to start working on things. I'm so pathetic.

So, thanks to [info]ssfseiyakou's gentle prodding, I am making my first post in this, my cosplay journal. Welcome, to anyone who decides to friend and or read this journal. Nothing here will be friends only, and I will try to keep everyone relatively updated as to what I might be doing in the cosplay world. Granted, some things just won't be posted here. Shhh, they're SECRETS! So I'm not telling. ^_~

Currently, my costume closet is rather limited. I also have a couple of costumes that I probably shouldn't admit to. *coughChibiMooncough* XD That being said, I'll mention them anyway, and give a brief list of what I currently have.

Completed Costumes:

ChibiMoon - fear the pinkness that is me
ChibiUsa Seifuku Stars Season - see above comment
Random Catgirl - affectionately dubbed Luna-No-Hentai
Taiki Kou Concert Suit - bananas in pajamas are coming down the stairs...
Taiki Kou Seifuku - retired until revamped

Hmm, I can't ~think~ of anything else that I have. If I have missed anything, and you know what it is, please let me know and I'll add it. XD Sooner or later I'll make a complete, detailed list and put it in my user information. Until that time, though, people will just have to guess at what is finished and what isn't. Here are a few of my current works in progress, most for AWA and DragonCon of 2005. As you can see, not all are anime related. ^_^

Future Costumes:

Taiki Kou Myu Concert Suit
Taiki Kou Haori & Hakama
Lime - Saber Marionette J
Star Fire - Teen Titans (New, animated)
Lemming - think the old computer game
Hothori Court Robes - FY - commissioning a friend
Mr. Moonlight - Morning Musume cosplay - the red suit
Hatsuharu - Fruits Basket - "biker" outfit

I know there are more... *scratches her head*
